It all started after dinner with my girlfriends where the subject of “leather” came up! -not in a kinky dressing up for the boudoir way (!) – but more seriously whether a woman in her 40s could wear it without

looking tarty! I of course said “YES YOU CAN,” as I am a huge fan of the leather biker jacket and leather leggings….but there are definite rules for us glamorous ladies and the key to leather is

how we put it together.

When I researched leather….oh my there are some BIg Big “No No’s” and I just had to share them

with you as they are BAD! Which resulted in my rules for leather:-

  1. Do not EVER buy coloured leather…Blake Lively is beautiful but yellow leather is not! Amanda Holden however hard she tries to be on trend….red leather? Really? Please no. Donatella Versace….too tight and pink with studs….it’s my worst nightmare…and then we love Goldie

Hawn but yellow leather flares and stripe poncho takes it to a whole other level…so

  1. Never wear head to toe leather….unless you own a motorbike! Remember posh and Becks’ matching head to toe looks….it’s just too much overkill….Kris Jenner….even her camisole is leather. No no no……
  1. Never wear leather too tight or too short, this just sends out the wrong impression. Rachel Hunter in a short mini? Kate Garraway’s too tight leather dress is really unflattering and unless you’re pencil thin forget it. At our age we have to realise that we are not our teenage daughters

And therefore it’s time to cover up in a chic and sophisticated way…but we can still be sexy and fashionable.

4.Do not buy a leather trench; however fashionable they may be at the time…. ‘flasher’ springs to mind….and then Sharon Stone….shows why you shouldn’t! That is one killer look!!!

  1. Lastly, invest in an item of leather that suits your body shape…J Lo so fails the test…she has a fabulous booty…..but the biker trousers don’t do her any justiceLeather1

So my advice is buy one investment piece for your wardrobe in black, a classic leather biker jacket,

a simple leather pencil skirt or a great pair of leather trousers. Keep your look simple….biker with

jeans, pencil skirt with sweatshirt or simple white shirt, leather trousers with oversized knit. The aim is to dress down your leather, make it look as though there is no effort involved and take inspiration

from the likes of Kate Moss, Elle McPherson, Angelina Jolie – they show how to do it… effortlessly.
